My feelings on hearing him perform solo were so strong that I found myself with tears rolling down my cheeks over a smile on my face. My experience at his solo concert gave me the profound feeling that I must spend more time at the piano myself. This is generally what is called 'inspiration'.

Clare Fischer.

Bert van den Brink is most certainly one of the best dutch pianists at the moment. He played for instance with Toots Thielemans, Chet Baker, DeeDee Bridgewater, Hein van de Gein, Lee Konitz, and he is the regular pianist of Denise Jannah.

Being a classical pianist originally, his jazz carreer started when Edu Ninck Blok asked him to join his band in 1986. A few years later he toured with DeeDee Bridgewater for more than a year. His style is remarkably ripe, rich in lyricism and harmonic sophistication. Beautiful voicings and a touch that can be romantic, but also aggressive as hell.

This live piano solo album stays interesting from the beginning up to the end. In these fifty minutes you'll hear a musician playing piano with a rare level of perfection and detail. It's a man with different faces, the last tune of this album is so beautiful that you can not believe the previous stunning performance of 'the blues' is played by the same pianist. So give it a chance, you won't be disappointed!
